Looks like Alexander Isak won’t be heading to Liverpool after all. Following the failed transfer, the Swedish striker is now asking for a pay raise at Newcastle United.
Liverpool had their eyes on the 25-year-old this summer and reportedly made a huge offer £120 million. But Newcastle weren’t having it and flat-out rejected the bid. Liverpool eventually backed off and decided to sign Hugo Ekitike instead.
Now that he’s staying at St. James’ Park, Isak is said to be asking for a salary boost. According to talkSport, the former Dortmund and Real Sociedad forward wants his weekly wage bumped up to £300,000.
That’s more than double what he’s currently making £120,000 per week. Not too surprising, considering he scored 27 goals and delivered 6 assists last season.
His agent has been dropping hints about Isak's future for a while now. Since joining Newcastle in 2022, Isak has been weighing his options this summer whether that means staying put or moving on.
Apart from Liverpool, clubs from Saudi Arabia have also shown interest. His representative, Gonzalo Gaitan, mentioned they’ve been exploring all the options, including a possible move to the Middle East.
“We’re analyzing everything and might be close to figuring out the next step for him,” Gaitan said. “Can’t really confirm whether he’s staying or leaving Newcastle just yet.”
