Liverpool’s plan to sign Alexander Isak this summer looks like it’s not happening. Newcastle, who currently own the striker, have firmly turned down the offer from the Premier League champions.
Liverpool is on the hunt for a new striker to replace Darwin Nunez, who’s expected to be offloaded by their new manager, Arne Slot. Lately, Isak’s name has been linked with a move to Anfield and is reportedly Slot’s top target this transfer window.
But according to The Sun, Liverpool will have to forget about bringing Isak in because Newcastle isn’t interested in selling him.
Liverpool were serious about this deal, even setting aside a whopping £120 million budget, which would be the biggest transfer fee the club has ever paid. They hoped this massive offer might convince Newcastle to part ways with Isak this summer.
However, Newcastle has rejected Liverpool’s approach outright. The reason? They see Isak as a key player and believe losing him would make it tough for the Magpies to compete next season.
Even though Newcastle reportedly needs extra cash to comply with the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), they’re standing firm and aren’t willing to let their star striker go.
