Tottenham Hotspur has made a bold move by appointing Thomas Frank as the club’s new head coach, reportedly paying a record-breaking fee to release him from his contract with Brentford.
Frank becomes the 13th managerial appointment under Chairman Daniel Levy’s leadership, signing a three-year deal with the North London club.
He will not be arriving alone. Frank has brought several key members of his coaching staff from Brentford to help lay the foundations of a new era at Tottenham. Justin Cochrane, Chris Haslam, Joe Newton, and Andreas Georgson have all joined the Spurs coaching team. Notably, Georgson previously held a role at Manchester United.
The managerial change follows the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou, whose tenure ended exactly two years after his arrival. Despite guiding the team to a UEFA Europa League title, his domestic league performance fell well below expectations.
Tottenham endured a dismal Premier League campaign, finishing 17th — just one place above the relegation zone — with 22 losses. The club recorded its highest-ever number of defeats and its lowest points total in Premier League history, prompting urgent action from the board.
To secure Frank’s services, Tottenham is believed to have spent approximately £10 million — the highest managerial transfer fee in the club’s history. While his release clause at Brentford was initially set at £9 million, negotiations led to an increased final sum.
Frank previously guided Brentford to Premier League promotion in 2021 and achieved two top-10 finishes in the past three seasons, marking him as one of the league's most respected tacticians.
