Bayern Munich's 0–2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinals marked the final appearance of Thomas Muller in a Bayern shirt. The 35 year old veteran has officially ended his long-standing association with the club, departing as a free agent after more than 25 years of service.
Speculation around Muller’s next move has linked him with potential transfers to Italy or Major League Soccer, particularly Los Angeles FC. However, the German international has expressed a desire for a fresh challenge in a completely new environment.
“I need to be presented with a clear project and vision,” Muller said. “It’s not just about signing somewhere for a few months. It has to be about the project itself.”
He continued, “It needs to be a mix of something new and a serious sporting challenge. That’s why more unconventional or ‘exotic’ destinations might have their advantages. But for now, that’s just theoretical.”
Over the course of his illustrious career, Muller has won every major trophy available at the club level amassing 33 titles, including two historic trebles. On the international stage, he lifted the FIFA World Cup with Germany in 2014.
Muller also acknowledged the possibility of retirement.
“Maybe I’ll go the opposite direction and retire that’s also an option,” he told DAZN. “Anything’s possible, but I’m not stressed about it. My contract with Bayern runs until the end of July, and I’m at ease with whatever comes next.”
