Leicester City has officially announced the departure of head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, bringing an end to a short and challenging chapter in the club’s recent history. The decision comes just over two months after the club’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.
Van Nistelrooy remained in charge through the end of the season and stayed on for an additional month, but uncertainty regarding his future persisted. Ultimately, both parties agreed to a mutual termination of his contract.
During his time at the helm, the former Manchester United striker was unable to stabilize the team. Under his leadership, Leicester recorded just five wins from 27 matches, a performance that played a significant role in their relegation to the Championship.
The club now faces further challenges, including the threat of a points deduction due to alleged breaches of EFL financial regulations.
Appointed in November 2024, Van Nistelrooy arrived during a period of declining form and growing public skepticism. Unfortunately, his tenure did little to reverse the team’s fortunes. Leicester managed only five victories while suffering 19 defeats under his management.
Relegation was confirmed with five games remaining in the season. Despite this, the club chose to retain Van Nistelrooy until the campaign concluded.
