Former Juventus and Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has reportedly reached an agreement to join Ligue 1 side AS Monaco on a two-year contract, marking a significant step in his return to professional football.
According to ESPN (Monday, June 23, 2025), Pogba accepted Monaco’s offer after turning down a lucrative deal from a Saudi Arabian club. This move signals Pogba’s much-anticipated comeback after serving a suspension related to a doping violation.
The French international was initially handed a four-year ban in February 2024 after testing positive for a banned substance. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) later reduced his suspension to 18 months in October 2024 following a successful appeal. The ban officially ended in March 2025.
Pogba, who parted ways with Juventus in 2024, reportedly made significant financial sacrifices to finalize the deal with Monaco. His return to the pitch would be his first competitive appearance in nearly two years.
Should the transfer be finalized, Pogba would be eligible to participate in the UEFA Champions League next season, as AS Monaco secured third place in the 2024/2025 Ligue 1 standings.
Although he hasn’t played a full match since March 2022 and last appeared as a 29-minute substitute for Juventus in September 2023, Pogba has been training intensely in recent months to prepare for his return. Nonetheless, he is expected to undergo a period of readjustment as he re-acclimates to competitive football and team dynamics.
