Atletico Madrid kept their unbeaten run alive with a solid win over Real Betis and finally, Los Colchoneros managed to claim their first away victory of the season.
Playing at the Olympic Stadium in Seville on Tuesday early morning local time, Atletico took the lead just three minutes in through Giuliano Simeone. Right before halftime, Alex Baena doubled the advantage to give the visitors full control of the match.
The 2–0 scoreline stood until the final whistle, lifting Atletico to fourth place in La Liga with 19 points from 10 games six points behind league leaders Real Madrid.
The victory extends Atletico’s unbeaten streak to nine matches. Since their opening-week defeat to Espanyol (1–2), Diego Simeone’s men have recorded five wins and four draws.
Even more satisfying, this was Atletico’s first away win of the season. Prior to this, they had drawn against Alaves, Mallorca, and Celta Vigo, in addition to that loss to Espanyol. Across all competitions, they had gone six away games without a win, including defeats to Liverpool (2–3) and Arsenal (0–4) in the Champions League.
“It feels great to get such an important and tough win,” goalkeeper Jan Oblak told Movistar Plus. “We played well in the first half, but in the second half, we defended too much and gave them some chances. Still, these are three big points for us today.”
