Real Madrid came out on top in the first El Clásico of the season, beating Barcelona 2-1 thanks to goals from Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham.
The much-anticipated clash took place at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday night, as part of La Liga’s 10th matchday. The game started with high intensity Madrid almost earned a penalty in just the second minute, and a Mbappé goal was ruled out 10 minutes later.
The hosts finally broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute through Mbappé, before Fermin López equalized for Barça in the 38th. However, Bellingham restored Madrid’s lead right before halftime.
Barcelona pushed hard after the break but couldn’t find another goal. The victory cements Madrid’s place at the top of the table with 27 points from 10 matches five points clear of second-placed Barcelona.
