Real Madrid secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Getafe in their latest La Liga outing, thanks to a second-half goal from Kylian Mbappé. The hosts ended the game with just nine players on the pitch.
The match took place at the Estadio Coliseum in the early hours of Monday. From the outset, Xabi Alonso’s side controlled the game, though they couldn’t find the breakthrough in the first half.
The turning point came in the second half. Allan Nyom, who had just come on in the 76th minute, was shown a straight red card only a minute later. He was penalized for a challenge on Vinícius Júnior, who appeared to be launching a promising counter-attack when fouled.
Real Madrid capitalized quickly. In the 80th minute, Kylian Mbappé latched onto a pass from Arda Güler and slotted the ball past the Getafe goalkeeper to put Madrid ahead.
Just four minutes later, Getafe were reduced to nine men when Álex Sáenz brought down Vinícius and also received a red card.
No further goals were scored, and the match ended 1-0 in favor of the visitors. With the win, Real Madrid stay top of the La Liga table with 24 points from nine matches, while Getafe sit 12th with 11 points.
