Crystal Palace will be without Marc Guehi next season, as the club captain has decided not to renew his contract and will leave when it expires.
Guehi came close to joining Liverpool during the summer transfer window, but the move fell through at the last minute after Palace couldn't secure a suitable replacement. Manager Oliver Glasner was also reportedly prepared to walk away had the club pushed through with the sale, leading to Guehi staying for one more season.
Since then, Guehi has delivered consistently strong performances, but Palace now face the reality that this will be his final campaign at Selhurst Park. The 25-year-old has made it clear he’s ready for a new challenge.
"I think Marc has already told us he won't be extending his contract, so he’ll leave next season," Glasner told The Athletic.
"The club wanted him to stay. They offered him a new deal, but he said, ‘No, I want a new experience.’ And that’s totally fair," he added.
"For us, it’s about how we manage this situation. What’s the best way to handle it? It’s all about open and honest discussions."
Glasner’s comments may be good news for Liverpool, who are still reportedly keen on signing Guehi possibly as early as January to fend off competition from other top clubs.
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also believed to be monitoring the defender closely. Since joining Palace from Chelsea in 2020, Guehi has made 167 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing five assists.
