Ahead of the much-anticipated Der Klassiker, Borussia Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac made a refreshingly honest admission: Bayern Munich, he says, are simply the better team.
While both sides remain unbeaten this season, Kovac sees a clear difference in quality. In his view, Bayern operate on a level above Dortmund at the moment.
He even acknowledged that the project he's building at Dortmund is still a year behind. For him, there's a noticeable gap between the two teams right now.
His humble remarks seem to signal that Dortmund will head to the Allianz Arena with a clear game plan and a high level of caution.
When asked to name the favorites for the match, Kovac didn’t hesitate Bayern Munich are, in his opinion, the frontrunners to win.
He pointed to their record-breaking title history and their squad filled with top-tier, high-value players as evidence of their superiority.
“We’re a big club that has to be said,” Kovac admitted. “But Bayern are the record champions. They have more titles than anyone else, and their squad is packed with world-class, incredibly expensive players,” he added.
