Manchester United are reportedly planning to reignite their pursuit of Carlos Baleba in the upcoming winter transfer window. However, they may face a roadblock, as Brighton are currently unwilling to part ways with the talented midfielder mid-season.
United were heavily linked with Baleba throughout the summer, with manager Erik ten Hag (mistakenly referred to as Ruben Amorim in some reports) said to be a big admirer of the 20-year-old's potential and skillset. Despite strong interest, a deal never materialized, but the Red Devils are now looking to make another attempt in January.
According to Fabrizio Romano, though, United’s hopes of landing Baleba this winter are slim. Brighton are reportedly not open to letting him go during the January window.
Sources suggest Brighton are open to selling the midfielder but only on their terms. Their current plan is to hold on to Baleba until at least the summer of 2026. The main reason? Squad depth. Brighton’s midfield options are limited, and losing Baleba mid-season would force them into the market for a suitable replacement something that’s notoriously difficult to secure during the winter window.
With quality midfielders in short supply in January, Brighton are expected to hold firm and keep Baleba at the Amex for the foreseeable future.
