Kylian Mbappe has been ruled out of France upcoming World Cup Qualifier against Iceland on Monday, October 13, 2025, due to a right ankle injury. The Real Madrid forward has returned to his club to begin treatment and recovery.
Mbappe had featured in France 3-0 win over Azerbaijan last Friday, where he also got on the scoresheet. However, he was substituted in the 83rd minute after feeling discomfort in his ankle.
This injury appears to be a recurrence of an issue he picked up just before the international break, during Madrid’s clash with Villarreal, involving the same ankle.
Real Madrid and their medical team are now focused on ensuring a full and speedy recovery, with hopes that the injury won’t have any lasting impact on his season or career.
The French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed Mbappe early departure and noted that no replacement would be called up. "The France captain spoke with Didier Deschamps after returning to Clairefontaine," read the official statement.
Head coach Didier Deschamps emphasized that Mbappe recovery is the top priority. "We’ll carry out further checks and monitor his progress. The pain seems to have eased compared to earlier in the week," Deschamps explained.
He also reassured fans that the injury is not considered serious. "At this point, there’s nothing to worry about," he added.
