Florian Wirtz is facing a slow start to life at Liverpool, but his Germany teammate, Serge Gnabry, believes it's just a matter of time before he finds his rhythm.
Since making the move from Bayer Leverkusen this past summer, Wirtz has struggled to make a significant impact. The 22-year-old midfielder has yet to score and has only one assist to his name from 10 appearances coming in the Community Shield.
That means Wirtz hasn’t contributed to any goals in Liverpool’s last nine matches, leading to growing scrutiny. Some have even suggested that he’s disrupting the team’s attacking flow rather than enhancing it.
Brought in with hopes of becoming a key playmaker for the Reds supplying the likes of Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike, and Alexander Isak Wirtz has yet to live up to expectations. However, Serge Gnabry is confident that his international colleague just needs more time to adapt.
"I don’t get the impression that Flo is struggling. He’s smiling, training well, and looks sharp," Gnabry told Liverpool Echo.
“No one doubts his quality and neither should he. Give the kid a bit of time. It was a big move for him. But he’s got massive talent, and I’m sure he’ll succeed.”
Wirtz arrived at Anfield with an impressive track record at Leverkusen, where he racked up 57 goals and 65 assists across 197 appearances.
