Erling Haaland has hit the ground running for Manchester City this season, scoring goals at a relentless pace. His sharpness in front of goal has been so impressive, it’s starting to make even a club legend like Sergio Aguero look somewhat ordinary by comparison.
So far, Haaland has netted nine goals in the Premier League from just seven matches more than what nine other Premier League teams have managed collectively.
Across all competitions, the 25-year-old striker has scored 12 goals in nine appearances. The only team that’s managed to keep him off the scoresheet this season is Tottenham Hotspur.
Since arriving at City in the summer of 2022, Haaland has consistently been a goal threat. But this season, the Norwegian striker seems to be taking things up a notch.
His performance in City’s 1-0 win over Brentford drew praise from all corners. Haaland showed his trademark aggression, physicality, and blistering pace especially in his duel with Sepp van den Berg, which he won before calmly slotting home the winner.
“I’ve never felt better,” Haaland said after the match, when asked about his current form.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes Haaland is now proving himself to be the best striker in the Premier League or at the very least, well on his way. With 136 goals in 155 appearances for City, Haaland’s numbers are undeniably staggering.
In fact, his stats are starting to eclipse even those of Sergio Aguero, one of the greatest forwards in Premier League history. Aguero scored 260 goals in 390 appearances for City, averaging 0.67 goals per game.
Haaland, by comparison, is currently averaging 0.87 goals per game.
“For me, there’s a difference between a great centre-forward and a natural goalscorer,” said Carragher, speaking to Sky Sports. “What we’re seeing right now is something the game has rarely witnessed.”
“And let’s not forget, this is a club where the previous goal machine was Sergio Aguero one of the very best we’ve ever seen. Haaland is operating on a completely different level.”
“He’s the best,” Carragher added.
