Crystal Palace impressive unbeaten streak has come to a close after a dramatic defeat against Everton.
The Eagles traveled to Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday night for their Premier League fixture, carrying with them an incredible 19-game unbeaten run across all competitions the longest in the club’s history.
Just last week, Oliver Glasner’s side stunned defending champions Liverpool, a result that further boosted the team’s confidence heading into the match. And that confidence showed early on, as Daniel Muñoz opened the scoring to put Palace ahead.
But things started to unravel. A penalty gave Everton a lifeline, which Iliman Ndiaye converted to level the match. Then, in stoppage time, Jack Grealish delivered a gut-punch with a late winner for the home side.
The result marks Palace’s first loss since April 17, when they were thrashed 5-0 by Newcastle United.
Despite the setback, Palace’s recent run has been nothing short of remarkable. Over those 19 matches, they not only avoided defeat but also lifted two trophies the FA Cup and the Community Shield.
Naturally, the loss was a tough pill to swallow for Glasner and his squad.
“We’re obviously very disappointed with today’s result,” the manager told BBC. “We played really well for 60 to 70 minutes it was a top-level performance.”
“It hurts, of course. It’s been months since we last felt this. But maybe we needed this kind of setback to feel the pain again, to grow and take the next step. Our last defeat taught us a lot, and this one will too.”
With this loss, every Premier League team has now suffered at least one defeat this season.
