The 2025 Intercontinental Cup is set to take place this December, with Qatar officially announced as the host by FIFA on Sunday, September 28.
The tournament brings together six clubs from six different football confederations. Representing UEFA is Paris Saint-Germain, who earned a direct ticket to the final after winning the 2024/2025 UEFA Champions League.
From Asia, AFC is represented by Al Ahli, the current Asian Champions League winner. Mexico’s Cruz Azul joins the competition as the CONCACAF Champions Cup champion.
Africa is represented by Pyramids FC, winners of the CAF Champions League, while Auckland City comes in as the OFC Champions League titleholder.
The final team will come from South America (CONMEBOL), but the representative has yet to be determined as the Copa Libertadores is still in the semifinal stage, featuring LDU Quito, Palmeiras, Racing Club, and Flamengo.
The tournament has already kicked off, with the first round seeing Pyramids defeat Auckland City 3–0 in Cairo. In the second round, Pyramids continued their run with a 3–1 away win against Al Ahli in Jeddah. Meanwhile, Cruz Azul awaits the winner from the ongoing CONMEBOL bracket.
The Cruz Azul vs. CONMEBOL winner will face Pyramids in a playoff match, with the victor advancing to the final against PSG.
The grand final is scheduled for December 17, 2025. With Qatar confirmed as the host country, FIFA is now in the process of finalizing the match venue.
