Arsenal pulled off a dramatic comeback to beat Newcastle United on their own turf, finally ending a string of disappointing results at St. James' Park.
In Sunday night’s clash (September 28, 2025), Newcastle took the lead in the 34th minute through a header from Nick Woltemade. But Arsenal kept pressing in the second half, eventually turning the game around in the dying minutes.
Mikel Merino sparked the comeback with an 84th-minute equalizer, before Gabriel Magalhães sealed the win with a powerful header deep into stoppage time securing a 2-1 victory for the visitors.
The result keeps Arsenal close on Liverpool’s heels in the Premier League title race, just two points behind after the Reds dropped points against Crystal Palace. But more than that, it ends Arsenal’s poor run at Newcastle a ground where they had lost their last three visits across all competitions.
Those defeats included two 1-0 losses in the Premier League (November 2023 and November 2024) and a 2-0 Carabao Cup exit in February 2025. Sunday’s win was only their second in the last six visits to St. James’ Park.
