Atletico Madrid were once again unable to secure a victory as they played out a 1-1 draw against Real Mallorca in La Liga action on Sunday, September 21, 2025. Diego Simeone’s side continues to struggle with consistency in the early stages of the season.
The match, held at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix, saw Atletico nearly open the scoring in the 7th minute through a long-range strike from Pablo Barrios, but Mallorca goalkeeper Leo Roman was quick to deny the effort. Just five minutes later, Mallorca conceded a penalty after Antonio Raillo was penalized for a handball inside the box.
Julian Alvarez stepped up to take the spot kick, but Roman produced a fine save to keep the score level. Mallorca responded in the 23rd minute with a threat of their own, though Marin Valjent’s long-range shot was well handled by Jan Oblak.
Atletico created another good opportunity in the 40th minute when Nico Gonzalez tried his luck from outside the box, only for Roman to make another save. The first half ended goalless despite both sides having their chances.
In the second half, Alvarez was once again denied by Roman in the 53rd minute, this time from close range. The Mallorca keeper continued to shine, comfortably saving a shot from Antoine Griezmann in the 69th minute.
Atletico's situation worsened in the 72nd minute when Alexander Sørloth was sent off for a reckless challenge on Raillo, reducing the visitors to 10 men. Despite being a man down, Atletico managed to break the deadlock in the 79th minute. A counter-attack led to Marcos Llorente’s shot being parried by Roman, but Conor Gallagher reacted quickly to slot home the rebound and give Atletico the lead.
However, Mallorca responded just six minutes later. Jan Virgili delivered a pinpoint cross that was powerfully headed in by Vedat Muriqi, leaving Oblak with no chance. The game ended 1-1, with both teams sharing the spoils.
