Rasmus Hojlund wasted no time making an impact at Napoli. The Danish striker, on loan from Manchester United, found the back of the net in his debut for Il Partenopei.
Hojlund joined Napoli this summer after United brought in Benjamin Šeško, prompting the 22-year-old to return to Italy, where he previously played for Atalanta. He was handed a starting role right away in Napoli’s third Serie A match of the 2025/26 season.
Playing away at Fiorentina’s Artemio Franchi Stadium on Sunday (Sept 14), it took Hojlund just 14 minutes to make his mark. Latching onto a clever through-ball from Leonardo Spinazzola, he outpaced his marker and slotted it past David De Gea to double Napoli’s lead after Kevin De Bruyne had opened the scoring from the penalty spot.
Hojlund played 73 minutes in total and put in an impressive all-around performance. According to Sofascore, he recorded 32 touches, completed one key pass, hit two accurate long balls, registered two shots on target, won five duels, drew four fouls, and scored once from an xG of 0.93.
This goal marks Hojlund first at club level this season, having not featured in United’s opening three games as the club prepared to send him out on loan. His last goal came in May, when he helped United beat Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League semi-finals. His most recent league goal was even further back, in April, against Bournemouth.
Napoli went on to win the match 3-1. Antonio Conte’s side added a third through Sam Beukema, before Fiorentina pulled one back via Luca Ranieri. The win keeps Napoli perfect with three wins from three to start the Serie A campaign.
