Gian Piero Gasperini, newly appointed head coach of AS Roma, has emphasized a pragmatic approach for his debut season with the club. According to the 67-year-old tactician, winning the Scudetto is not a realistic objective at this stage.
Gasperini replaces Claudio Ranieri and takes charge of a Roma squad led by the likes of Paulo Dybala. The former Atalanta manager has signed a contract that runs through 2028 and will officially begin his tenure next season.
During his introductory press conference on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, Gasperini outlined his vision and priorities for the team.
"The best possible outcome would be securing a place in the Champions League," Gasperini stated, as quoted by Sky Sport Italia. "At the moment, Roma is not in a position to contend for the Scudetto—but in football, you never know."
He added, "For me, the goal is to build a stronger team, with more national and international-caliber players, which we currently lack."
"We need to establish a solid core and ensure continuity. That’s the foundation for long-term growth and development," Gasperini concluded.
