Real Madrid is set for a tough road in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League, but there's strong belief that Los Blancos can live up to expectations.
The group stage draw, held in Monaco on Thursday (August 28, 2025), placed Madrid in a highly competitive group alongside Manchester City, Liverpool, Juventus, Benfica, Marseille, Olympiacos, AS Monaco, and Kairat Almaty.
It’s a real test for head coach Xabi Alonso, who will be navigating his first Champions League campaign in charge of the club. Still, there’s confidence within the Madrid camp. Real Madrid’s Director of Institutional Relations, Emilio Butragueño, shared his optimism.
"We’re fully aware of how demanding this competition is, and we’ll be up against some of the best teams in Europe. Every match will be intense, and we need to be thoroughly prepared," Butragueño told Real Madrid TV.
He also emphasized the team’s excitement heading into the tournament, expressing faith in the depth and quality of the squad.
"We’re approaching this Champions League with a lot of excitement and confidence. We believe in this group of players and the many options available to Xabi Alonso. We’re confident the team will live up to the expectations of our fans," he added.
Last season, Madrid’s journey ended in the quarterfinals after being knocked out by Arsenal. This year, they’ll be aiming to go even further.
