The transfer saga surrounding Alejandro Garnacho is finally coming to an end, as Chelsea and Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement over the Argentine winger’s move.
According to The Athletic, the two Premier League clubs have settled on a transfer fee of £40 million, with an additional 10% sell-on clause in favor of United for any future sale.
Garnacho, 21, is now set to complete the final steps of the transfer. He is expected to undergo a medical on Friday (August 29) before signing a seven-year deal with the Blues.
The young winger had made up his mind about joining Chelsea after deciding to leave Manchester United this summer. Despite interest from Napoli and clubs in Saudi Arabia, Garnacho turned down other offers in favor of a move to Stamford Bridge.
His departure from United comes after struggling for consistent playing time under new manager Rúben Amorim. Garnacho spent much of last season on the bench and was notably left out of the squad for the Europa League final a match United went on to lose. He was also omitted from the club's preseason tour.
A product of United's academy and a known admirer of Cristiano Ronaldo, Garnacho made 144 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 26 goals and providing 22 assists during his time at Old Trafford.
Now, he begins a new chapter at Chelsea, where he'll add depth to the left wing and compete with fellow summer signing Jamie Gittens. Garnacho becomes Chelsea’s 10th signing of the summer as the club continues to strengthen its squad for the upcoming season.
