Borussia Dortmund have officially secured the services of Chelsea’s young midfielder, Carney Chukwuemeka, on a permanent basis.
The transfer was confirmed by the Bundesliga club on Tuesday evening (Aug 26). The 21 year old attacking midfielder will now continue his journey with Dortmund, this time as a full-time player rather than on loan.
Chukwuemeka initially joined Dortmund in February on loan from Chelsea for the remainder of the 2024/25 season, with an option to buy included in the deal. Impressed by his performances, Dortmund have decided to trigger that clause. Reports suggest the transfer fee is around €24 million (approximately IDR 456 billion).
Chukwuemeka signed with Chelsea in 2022 at the age of 18, after moving from Aston Villa. Despite being seen as a promising talent, he struggled to secure regular playing time at Stamford Bridge, making just 32 appearances and scoring two goals before heading out on loan last season.
During his time with Dortmund, he featured in 10 Bundesliga matches and scored once. Across all competitions, he made 17 appearances.
Chukwuemeka becomes the 12th player to leave Chelsea on a permanent basis this summer, following the exits of Renato Veiga, Armando Broja, and Lesley Ugochukwu.
