Barcelona have officially extended Inaki Pena contract but the Spanish goalkeeper won’t be staying at Camp Nou for now. Instead, he’s heading out on loan to Elche until the end of the 2025/2026 season.
Pena original deal was set to expire next summer, but rather than risk losing him on a free transfer, Barça opted to secure his future with a new contract running until 2029.
"The club and Inaki Pena have reached an agreement to extend his contract. He will spend the rest of the season on loan at Elche," Barcelona confirmed in an official statement.
"Now tied to the club until 2029, the Alicante-born keeper will continue to gain valuable first-team experience closer to home, under the guidance of Eder Sarabia former assistant to Quique Setién."
According to AS, the 26-year-old arrived in Elche on Tuesday night (Aug 26, 2025) and underwent his medical on Wednesday. He becomes Elche’s 10th signing of the summer window.
With Pena departure, Barcelona have streamlined their goalkeeper roster. The club now have three main options between the posts: Wojciech Szczesny, Marc-André ter Stegen, and new signing Joan Garcia who’s expected to take over as the number one.
