Fermin Lopez has been at the center of transfer speculation this summer, but Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has offered a clear stance on the situation.
The 22 year old midfielder was rumored to be on the transfer list, with reports suggesting that Barcelona might consider selling him. Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United were both linked with the Spanish international, with an alleged bid of €80 million on the table.
Inside the club, opinions appear to be split. Some Barcelona executives reportedly see Lopez as a potential asset to generate much-needed funds. However, Flick is firmly against letting him go.
When asked again about Lopez’s future, Flick made his position crystal clear: he wants the player to stay.
“I don’t want to lose anyone this is going to be a tough season,” Flick said.
“He played very well last season, and he’s already shown his quality in our opening match,” he added, as quoted by AS.
A product of La Masia, Lopez has spent three seasons with Barcelona’s senior team. In that time, he has made 89 appearances, scored 19 goals, and provided 11 assists, contributing to the club’s recent success in LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.
His strong performances at the club level also earned him a call-up to the Spanish national team, where he has made two senior appearances. Lopez was also part of the squad that won Euro 2024 and took home Olympic gold with Spain’s U-23 team.
