Philippe Coutinho has revealed what he considers the most successful period of his football career—and surprisingly, it's not with Liverpool or Barcelona, but during his loan spell at Bayern Munich.
Over the years, Coutinho has played for some of the biggest clubs in the world, including Inter Milan, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich. His longest stint was with Liverpool, where he played from 2013 to 2018.
In 2018, Coutinho made a high-profile move to Barcelona for €135 million, a fee that still ranks him among the most expensive transfers in football history. However, things didn’t go as planned. He struggled to find his place in the squad and was eventually loaned out to Bayern Munich.
In 2022, Barcelona sold him to Aston Villa for just €20 million. Now 33 years old, Coutinho is back in his home country, playing for Vasco da Gama in Brazil.
Speaking to World Soccer, Coutinho shared: "My most successful period was at Bayern Munich, where I won the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal, and most importantly, the Champions League."
Coutinho joined Bayern for the 2019–2020 season, making 38 appearances, scoring 11 goals, and providing 9 assists. Under coach Hansi Flick, he played a key role in the club’s treble-winning campaign. Despite his contributions, Bayern chose not to make the move permanent.
"Winning the Champions League was always my biggest goal. I’m grateful I had the chance to do it with Bayern," he recalled.
Although Coutinho made the most appearances in his career at Liverpool 201 games with 54 goals he left Anfield without winning a major trophy.
