Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is feeling positive about his new striker, Viktor Gyökeres. He believes the Swedish forward will make a big impact at the club this season.
Gyökeres was one of Arsenal’s major signings this summer, arriving from Sporting CP for a reported fee of £55 million, with an additional £8.5 million in potential bonuses. His arrival is seen as a key move to boost the Gunners’ attacking firepower.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a sensational season with Sporting, scoring 54 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions. Naturally, expectations are high as he begins his journey in North London.
Speaking to the BBC, Arteta expressed his excitement about working with Gyökeres.
“We’re really happy to have Viktor with us,” Arteta said. “He's already adapting well, and I’m confident he’s going to have a huge impact on the team.”
He added, “A lot of strikers have come in from other leagues and succeeded here. Now it’s our job to create the right environment for him to thrive.”
Arsenal kick off their Premier League campaign with a tough trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Sunday evening (August 17). Arteta hinted that Gyökeres could feature in the match.
“Viktor’s improving every day. He’s naturally a very fit player, although he had a slight issue during our last two pre-season games,” Arteta explained. “We’ll see how things go, but he’s in a good place heading into the weekend.”
