With just a day to go before Barcelona’s LaLiga season opener against Mallorca, the club is still waiting for clearance to register Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford something that hasn’t sat well with head coach Hansi Flick.
Reports had previously suggested that Barcelona could register Garcia using the salary slot of Marc-André ter Stegen, who is sidelined for at least four months due to a serious injury. In addition, the club’s board approved a €7 million bank loan to create extra salary cap space, which would allow Rashford to be registered as well.
Despite these moves, the official registration of both players remains unresolved.
"You can imagine I’m not happy about it, but I understand the situation and I trust the club," Flick said during a press conference on Friday (August 15), as quoted by ESPN.
"We’ll have to wait until tomorrow (Saturday). I think it’s similar to what we experienced last season. Our focus is on what we can control, and for everything else, I have full trust in the club," the German manager added.
If the registrations aren't approved before the deadline, Barcelona will be left with no choice but to start Iñaki Peña, currently the only fully fit first-team goalkeeper without administrative issues.
Still, local newspaper Diario Sport reports that Barcelona remains confident both Garcia and Rashford will be registered in time to be included in the squad for Sunday’s match (August 17) at 00:30 WIB against Mallorca at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix.
