AC Milan legend Arrigo Sacchi has weighed in on the ongoing speculation surrounding Rasmus Hojlund’s future, offering a clear message to his former club: if the striker isn’t keen on joining, Milan should move on.
Currently, Hojlund finds himself at a pivotal point in his career. The young Manchester United forward has been linked with a potential loan move to Milan, which could include a purchase option. However, reports suggest that Hojlund is determined to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place.
His performance last season fell short of expectations scoring just four goals in the Premier League and ten across all competitions. Meanwhile, United have already added more firepower up front, further clouding Hojlund’s role in the squad.
With competition intensifying in Manchester, Sacchi believes Milan should focus on players who are fully motivated and eager to contribute.
“Hojlund isn’t exactly a world-class striker right now,” Sacchi told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “He’s a decent player, but nothing extraordinary. So all this pursuit seems a bit much to me.”
Sacchi acknowledges Milan’s current shortage of options up front but insists that any potential signing must be fully committed. “I understand why Milan are looking to bring someone in. But if a player needs convincing to join a club like Milan, maybe he’s not the right fit,” he added.
Sacchi also expressed surprise at Hojlund’s desire to stay at United, despite not being a key figure in the squad. In his view, an offer from Milan is an opportunity that should be accepted without hesitation.
“I don’t understand his choice. If Milan calls, you should be on the next flight to Malpensa,” he said. “Milan is a legendary name in world football.”
To drive home his point, Sacchi suggested a symbolic gesture for any new signing. “I’d take every new player on a tour of the trophy room, just to remind them where they are. This is a privilege not something to take lightly.”
