La Liga giants Real Madrid are reportedly still very much interested in Arsenal center-back William Saliba, and they’re preparing a fresh attempt to bring him to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Los Blancos are currently in the market for a new central defender, with manager Xabi Alonso looking to inject some youth into a backline that’s increasingly reliant on older, more experienced players.
One of the top names on their radar is Saliba. The French international has impressed with his composure, strength, and intelligence at the back—qualities that Real Madrid believe make him a perfect long-term solution for their defense.
According to Defensa Central, Madrid haven’t given up on the idea of signing Saliba, despite a previous attempt falling through. Arsenal, for their part, have made it clear they consider Saliba untouchable. He’s seen as a key pillar of Mikel Arteta’s defense, and letting him go would be a major disruption to the team's stability.
That firm stance led to Madrid’s initial approach being swiftly rejected. However, the Spanish side is reportedly ready to return to the negotiating table with a new strategy.
This time, Madrid are considering a player swap deal, with Rodrygo potentially being offered as part of the package. They’re aware that Arsenal have long admired the Brazilian forward, and they see this as a way to tempt the Gunners into reconsidering.
Still, Madrid will need to move quickly. Arsenal are said to be working on a new contract extension for Saliba, and once that’s finalized, any chance of a deal could vanish.
