Manchester United is reportedly close to finalizing the transfer of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a deal worth around £70 million, with an additional £5 million in potential bonuses. The 21 year old Slovenian striker is widely regarded as one of the most physically promising forwards in Europe.
Standing at 195 cm, Sesko is known for his aerial prowess, powerful shot, and surprising pace for a player of his size. However, his performances in the Bundesliga so far haven’t quite lived up to his hefty price tag.
Despite his impressive physical profile, Sesko has yet to deliver consistent goal-scoring numbers or attacking contributions for Leipzig. His involvement in terms of shots, dribbles, key passes, and assists has remained limited.
This move echoes United’s previous gamble on Rasmus Højlund, signed from Atalanta for a similar fee. While hopes were high for the Danish forward to develop into a prolific scorer, he struggled to meet expectations and is now being moved on to make room for Šeško.
Reports suggest United are seeking around £40 million for Højlund, though interest has been limited given his underwhelming goal output. Some sources claim AC Milan are exploring a loan deal with an option but not an obligation to buy.
From a financial standpoint, a loan deal wouldn’t do much to help United stay within this season’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The club would need to sell Højlund for around £35 million just to balance the amortized cost of his transfer.
