Ademola Lookman recently took to social media to voice his frustration with Atalanta, accusing the club of going back on their word by blocking his potential transfer this summer. While he didn’t explicitly name the club he's aiming to join, Inter Milan is widely reported to be the most serious contender.
In his statement on Sunday (August 3, 2025), Lookman revealed that he had formally requested a transfer and expressed disappointment over Atalanta’s stance. He emphasized his desire for a peaceful resolution, though bringing the matter into the public eye has stirred some controversy.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Atalanta has a different version of the story. The club acknowledges a previous promise made to Lookman, but says it was based on the condition that a strong offer from a foreign club would be considered. That moment came in the summer of 2024, when Lookman was left out of the squad for the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid and was linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain. However, no deal materialized, and he stayed another season in Bergamo.
Now, with Inter Milan showing strong interest, Atalanta is hesitant mainly because they see Inter as a direct domestic rival. This, the club insists, is why they’ve held off on approving the transfer.
If Atalanta were to sell Lookman to Inter, they expect a more substantial offer than the reported €42 million plus €3 million in bonuses an amount still €5 million short of their valuation.
Lookman has been a key figure at Atalanta since joining in 2022, scoring 52 goals in 117 appearances. He had a standout campaign last season, netting 20 goals in 40 matches across all competitions.
