Luis Diaz made a strong first impression in his Bayern Munich debut, helping the team to a 2-1 win over Olympique Lyon. The Colombian winger says he felt at ease with his new club from the start.
Diaz, who joined Bayern from Liverpool, came on as a second-half substitute during the preseason match at Allianz Arena on Saturday evening (Aug 2, 2025). He replaced Lennert Karl at the break and wasted no time making an impact.
It was a foul on Diaz that earned Bayern a penalty, which Michael Olise confidently converted to open the scoring.
Olise then doubled Bayern's lead around the hour mark, before Lyon pulled one back through Alejandro Rodriguez in the final 10 minutes.
Diaz was active throughout his half of play, registering two shots on target, though both were denied by the Lyon goalkeeper.
“I felt really comfortable out there. I'm happy to be here and to have played my first game,” Diaz told fcbayern.com.
“We put in a strong performance and controlled the match. I had a couple of chances unfortunately, I couldn't score. Hopefully, I’ll get one in the next game. My goal is to help the team and win trophies.”
Bayern have two more preseason fixtures lined up against Tottenham Hotspur (August 7) and GC Zurich (August 12), before kicking off the 2025/26 season with a German Super Cup clash against Stuttgart on August 17.
