Inter Milan have reportedly ended their pursuit of Ademola Lookman and are now turning their attention to Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku.
Lookman had been one of Inter’s top targets during this summer transfer window. The Nerazzurri were impressed by his consistent performances for Atalanta over the past few seasons. The 27 year old Nigerian forward has made 118 appearances for La Dea, scoring 52 goals and providing 25 assists. He also played a key role in Atalanta's triumph in the 2023/2024 Europa League.
Inter made a serious push to sign Lookman, submitting multiple offers to Atalanta. Their latest bid was reportedly €45 million, consisting of €42 million upfront and €3 million in bonuses. However, Atalanta remained firm on their €50 million asking price and rejected the offer.
With Atalanta unwilling to lower their demands, Inter have begun to back away from the deal. As a result, they’ve shifted their focus to a new target Christopher Nkunku.
According to Calciomercato, Inter have already initiated contact with Nkunku’s representatives. The French forward is believed to be on Chelsea’s transfer list after an underwhelming 2024/2025 Premier League season, in which he managed just three goals and two assists.
Inter are reportedly exploring a potential loan move with an option to buy. However, Nkunku's salary could pose a problem. The 27 year old earns €6.5 million per year at Chelsea significantly more than Lookman’s €4.5 million annual wage making the deal financially challenging for Inter.
Still, Inter remain interested and are weighing their options as they look to reinforce their attack ahead of the new season.
