Manchester United appear ready to part ways with Jadon Sancho, and Borussia Dortmund have admitted they’re still thinking about bringing their former player back. So, what’s holding them back?
Sancho is among the names Manchester United have put on the transfer list this summer. The English winger is not part of new manager Ruben Amorim’s plans moving forward.
Last season, Sancho was loaned out to Chelsea, after spending the previous campaign back at Dortmund on a temporary deal. However, Chelsea opted not to make the move permanent, instead paying a £5 million penalty to Manchester United to end the loan early leaving Sancho's future up in the air.
Several clubs have been linked with the 24-year-old, including Dortmund the club where he rose to prominence between 2017 and 2021. But there’s growing speculation that the German side may be hesitant to commit.
According to Sky Germany journalist Patrick Berger, Sancho is reportedly open to a significant wage cut to return to Dortmund this summer. Still, Dortmund seem to be second-guessing the move, particularly after both Chelsea and United made it clear they no longer see Sancho in their plans.
Dortmund’s Sporting Director, Sebastian Kehl, confirmed that the club has been evaluating the possibility but noted there are specific challenges preventing the deal from moving forward.
"Jadon is constantly linked with us, and I understand why there’s interest," Kehl told Goal. "We’re considering the options based on the opportunities available. The conditions have to be right. Of course, we’d like to make something happen but we also have our limitations."
