Manchester United’s pursuit of Benjamin Sesko has taken an interesting turn, with RB Leipzig reportedly expressing interest in Rasmus Hojlund. The 21 year old Slovenian striker had a strong campaign last season, scoring 21 goals and providing six assists in 45 appearances earning attention from several top European clubs, including United.
However, Sesko won’t come cheap. Leipzig are asking for €75 million, along with potential add-ons and a sell-on clause for any future transfer. That said, the total price might come down under the right circumstances.
According to The Athletic, Leipzig are not only open to talks but are also keen on Hojlund a player also being tracked by Borussia Dortmund and possibly Newcastle United. This opens the door to a possible player-plus-cash deal, with United sending Hojlund to Germany and topping it up with a fee to land Sesko.
Despite both being 22 years old, their market values differ significantly. Hojlund managed just four Premier League goals last season, making it unlikely for United to recoup the £64 million they paid Atalanta two years ago. His current valuation is estimated closer to £45 million.
Hojlund is still fighting for his place at Old Trafford. He recently impressed with a goal in United’s 4-1 preseason win over Bournemouth in Chicago. So far, the club hasn’t informed him whether he’s part of their long-term plans or if he's on the transfer list.
It’s important to note that a swap deal isn’t the only route United could take to sign Sesko. Selling Hojlund isn’t a necessity, especially with Alejandro Garnacho and Antony reportedly being considered for potential sales to raise funds.
