Barcelona just dropped a major surprise in this summer’s transfer window they've officially announced the signing of Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.
The Spanish giants had been actively on the hunt for a new winger to fit into Hansi Flick’s plans since the start of the summer.
Initially, Nico Williams was their top target, but that move fell through after Williams decided to stay at Athletic Bilbao.
Now, Barcelona have found an alternative. In an official statement on their website, the club confirmed they've secured the services of Rashford on loan from Manchester United.
According to the announcement, Rashford will join Barcelona on a season-long loan deal that runs through to 2026:
"FC Barcelona and Manchester United have reached an agreement for the loan of Marcus Rashford until 2026," the club said in the statement.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also shared more details. Rashford is heading to Barca on a one-year loan, with an option to buy for €30-35 million at the end of the season.
Barcelona will cover 100% of Rashford’s wages during the loan period, which means United will save around £325,000 a week on their wage bill.
Rashford becomes Barcelona’s third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Joan Garcia and Roony Bardghji.
With Williams out of the picture, Barcelona are hoping Rashford can bring the creative spark they’ve been missing in attack.
