This summer’s transfer window just got more interesting with a surprising move from Juventus. The Italian giants have reportedly struck a swap deal with Portuguese side FC Porto.
The agreement involves a right-back exchange Alberto Costa is set to join Porto, while Joao Mario will head to Juventus.
According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, the deal isn’t just a straight player-for-player swap. Juventus will also receive a bit of cash as part of the transfer.
Talks between the two clubs have apparently reached the final stages, with only a few details left to finalize before the deal becomes official.
In this arrangement, Porto will pay €15 million plus €1 million in bonuses for Costa. On the other side, Joao Mario is valued at €10 million meaning Juventus could pocket up to €6 million in the deal.
What’s surprising is how quickly Juventus have decided to move on from Costa. The right-back only joined from Vitoria Guimaraes in January and made just 14 competitive appearances, registering three assists. He was also briefly linked with Sporting CP before this swap came together.
As for Joao Mario, the 25-year-old is a homegrown talent from Porto’s academy and had a solid season last year, featuring in 42 matches and delivering seven assists. Now, he's set for a new challenge in Turin.
